HAPE is a devastating form of altitude sickness that can rapidly progress to death and for which treatment options are very limited. We still don’t fully understand what causes the build-up of fluid in the lungs that occurs in HAPE. We believe that by working out what makes HAPE-susceptible people different, we will be able to develop new treatments in the future that could potentially save lives in the mountains.
To do this, we have developed a database of previous HAPE-sufferers worldwide who might consider participating in research studies. Some of these studies might involve nothing more than a questionnaire, and some may involve blood samples or genetic testing. If you would like your name to be registered in the database, please click on the register button below. Your name will be held privately on a secure database and your details will not be shared with anyone.
Alternatively, if you have ever travelled above 3500m and not experienced HAPE, we would also like to hear from you, because we need a group of healthy people to compare to the HAPE-sufferers. Click on the button below to register.
After you register with the database, we'll pretty much leave you alone. If we receive a request from a physician doing research in your area, we will let you know directly, but we will never give out your contact details.
Your details will be held securely and we will never give them to anyone else.
