ABOUT US

APEX (Altitude Physiology Expeditions)  was founded by medical students at the University of Edinburgh in 2001. Since then, hundreds of students have taken part in expeditions investigating the effect of altitude and hypoxia (low oxygen levels) on the human body. APEX6 was the latest expedition completed in July 2022...

RESEARCH

Several research projects were conducted during the APEX 6 expedition. This includes investigating the effects of altitude on neutrophils (a white blood cell), eye movements called saccades, sleep and pulmonary oedema (fluid on the lungs.)

MEET THE TEAM

A group of four medical students at the University of Edinburgh organised the latest APEX expedition.
