Next up in our travel highlights series is Asia Minczuk telling us about her time in Huacachina - "The oasis of Peru"
After our adventures in Cusco, hiking up to Machu Picchu, trekking through the jungle, and going back to 4600m to the 7 lakes of Ausangate, we were ready for some relaxing in the desert oasis of Huacachina.

Arriving early on yet another overnight bus and a quick power nap, we woke up surrounded by the ridiculously tall (up to 200m!) sand dunes. We spent our day exploring around the oasis and relaxing by the pool, followed by a cocktail making class and some questionable karaoke (everyone loved our rendition of The Proclaimers’ 500 Miles.
The next day we set off into the dunes for a highlight of the trip- sand skiing! Although we felt ridiculous walking around with ski boots and helmets, it was all worth it after speeding up and down the dunes and getting to the top, ready to ski down! Getting used to the sand took a while for some, reaching speeds of 1m per minute and practising their forward rolls down the dune, which provided plenty of entertainment for everyone else. After carving through the sand, we raced to the top back in the sand buggies to enjoy sunset with some homemade Pisco Sours, a lovely end to our Huacachina adventure.
